EVERYTHING… a poem

silhouette of mountain during sunset

I see the orange and purple sky on the horizon

And I feel pacified

Everything is going to be alright

I watch the gentle rain assiduously bathe the earth

And I feel afresh

Everything is going to be alright

I hear the distant, unbridled laughter of a child

And I feel a smile play upon my face

Everything is going to be alright

I see the love in my wife’s eyes as she says goodnight

And I feel blessed as she says

Everything is going to be alright

WINGS… a poem of faith

red rose flower by gray concrete brick wall at daytime

There will always be tears

Of joy and of pain

You will always be here

In our souls you’ll remain

Your smile is a memory

Time can’t take away

We now walk alone

Since Jesus called your name

Our hearts are so full

Of the love that you gave

You are now everlasting

In the promise He made

In this we take comfort

Knowing we’ll see you again

The day we get our wings

And forever begins

GUARDIAN ANGEL… a song

They all said I couldn’t know you

But what they didn’t see

Were the windows to my soul

Where you will always be with me

Yeah, I was just a baby

When God took you away

But your presence, it still lingers

In every breath I take

Guardian Angel, yes, that is you

Picking me up when I fall down

Pulling me back when I’m feeling blue

Guardian Angel, still here today

Physically, I cannot touch you

But, you’re in my heart to stay

Guardian Angel

When I look into mirror

There is a freckle in my eye

People tell me it’s endearing

And sometimes it makes me cry

Not because I’m sad, you see

No, the opposite is true

The reflection that I see of me

Is a reflection of you too

Guardian Angel, yes, that is you

Picking me up when I fall down

Pulling me back when I’m feeling blue

Guardian Angel, still here today

Physically, I cannot touch you

But, you’re in my heart to stay

Guardian Angel

The hawk soars

Even while the tiny blackbird

Deftly dive bombs it from on high

One merely twitches and adjusts

The other strokes and falls

They both carry a faith

Whether large or small

Neither of them lose their focus

REBIRTH… a poem of faith

white concrete statue during daytime

What’s happened to humanity

More and more I wonder why

The hate and visceral cruelty

Towards someone who’s different

Than you or I

If only they could stop and think

The other way around

They’d see that they are different too

Skin of olive, gold or brown

Inside there is a beating heart

With love of life and kin

Just like you and me, that is

We’re all the same within

It’s been going on as long as man

Has walked upon the earth

But there is One who paid the price

His name is Jesus

He gives us life

He gives rebirth

MY GOD – MY LIFE… a poem of faith

black stone on shoreline

The little ripples of the waves

That wash right over me

Can’t take away the pain

Can’t make me whole again

The little light reflecting diamonds

That dance upon this sea

Only blind me… Hmm

And if I walk out further

Maybe I can finally find

The happiness, contentedness

That’s absent from my mind

If only there was someone who

Would reach out and take my hand

Then I could start to live my life

As a complacent man

Mmm, mmm….

Then suddenly the water’s gone

And right in front of me

A light so bright and brilliant

That I can hardly see

When someone reaches out

And takes me by my hand

Next thing I know my heart is filled

Now I can barely stand

He calmed the seas

He gave me sight

He healed my wounds

My God – my life

JAR… a poem of faith

red and white labeled jar on brown wooden table

Blinking up at the stars I see

What is right in front of me

A billion reasons like grains of sand

Painted by the Father’s hand

Reflected in the perfect light

Though I may doubt He got it right

Make no mistake of who you are

God dipped you from His favorite jar

GRACIOUSLY… a poem of faith

man kneeling down near shore

If I step out upon the grasses

In the memories of my life

Will I be filled with awed expressions

Or subdued by ills and strife

Will the corners of my lips be turned

Into an upward smile of grace

Or strangled on the bile of sadness

Knowing how I’ve wasted in this place

And when I wake up from this dream

Upon my knees I know I’ll fall

Because my God has blessed this soul

Beyond mere memories

Beyond the wall

So here and now I praise the works in me

That He did give so graciously

And thank Him each and every day

For teaching me the only way

HANDED DOWN… a love poem

woman wearing green top holding hand

If you walk and hold my hand

If you put on this wedding band

If you will love me for all life

I’ll pledge the same to you, my wife

And when our children are all grown

Yes, with families of their own

I hope they look at us and say

Please let us turn out the same way

It all started with a kiss

We’ll look back and reminisce

And cherish every single time

Our hearts beat in the same rhyme

Grandbabies falling fast asleep

Upon our laps all in a heap

With hugs and kisses we let go

God had a plan and made it so

Just hold on tight girl while we fly

Exploring mysteries of life

And know it started with our love

Handed down from up above

AGING… a poem of life and faith

This is a picture of my grandfather on my mother’s side…

Callused and worn

Broken and cracked

Wrinkled and withering

Down in the back

Can’t see a thing

Without the aid of some specs

What did you say

My hearing’s a wreck

And yet I still smile

Every single day

God gave me this time

I’ll not waste it away

Do I consider myself lucky

No, that’s not the test

Someone faithful like me

Knows they are blessed
