SORROW

Oh sorrow, you are the apothecary of martyrdom

You drug me with your vigilant patience

Until I am saturated within your devious design

Manifesting in my hour of slumber

You inoculate my fear, my doubt, my substance

You ride my dreams like the nightshade, Belladonna

Attempting to purge my gut

When the promise of morning should bring light and hope

You continue your duplicitous folly

Lynching my heart and soul at will

Your incessant guile accosts me ceaselessly

Strangling my resolve

Yet, this seeming monopoly has an adversary – Time

However, perseverance is your companion

Your light may dim

Yet you have timeless watchfulness

Only in death are you defeated

But, even in death you find purchase to begin anew

In others…

Whereby… a poem of release

man standing on brown rock formation beside seashore during daytime

Whereby, I find myself by the sea

And I am happy

Whereby, I find myself with a new freedom

And I am happy

Whereby, I finally let go and move on

And I am happy

Whereby, this is the day I leave a job I no longer love

And – I am happy

Where is your happiness?

A FINAL NIGHT… a dark-ish poem?

If I write today

Will it resonate

With anyone at all

If I tell a tale

And toast with ale

Will you catch me if I fall

Will the moon still rise

And cross each night

Of a celestial starlit sea

Or will the ink run dry

As I lay here and die

With no one next to me

EVERYTHING… a poem

silhouette of mountain during sunset

I see the orange and purple sky on the horizon

And I feel pacified

Everything is going to be alright

I watch the gentle rain assiduously bathe the earth

And I feel afresh

Everything is going to be alright

I hear the distant, unbridled laughter of a child

And I feel a smile play upon my face

Everything is going to be alright

I see the love in my wife’s eyes as she says goodnight

And I feel blessed as she says

Everything is going to be alright

THE HUMAN RACE… a poem

person standing near cliff

When you come down from the mountain

Bearing burdens and broken dreams

With a brand new understanding

Of what living life truly means

And when you think you’ve got it figured out

Prepare yourself again

Because, life hits you from all directions

It doesn’t care where you’ve been

Wisdom comes from knowledge

Knowledge comes from grace

The grace we have to understand

We’re all the human race

DAUGHTER… a creepy poem and painting

Painted July 27, 2021 by Kevin Parish

The paints came alive

In a devilish manner

Concocting horizons of err

Foolish was I

To believe in such madness

Revealing a life of dispair

Fingers and hands

With a devil’s command

Congealing in clandestine fodder

Revealing sad eyes

Of a life passed by

The ghost of my long lost daughter

ONE TREE… a poem

person sitting on rock formations

I see now how the sadness took you

Consumed you

Broke you

I see now how everyone looked away

Turned their back

Ignored you

Now, here we stand with our heads bowed

Hearts broken

Humanity shattered

You were more than one tree in the forest

Time to rest

BOUND… a poem

silver pen on white paper

Hosts of pages litter the floor

Crumpled little dreams tossed by the wayside

Imagination sees while translations lack the fortitude

Where is the elusive muse

Who can coax nimble fingers

Into releasing these bound tales?
