HANDS ON THE CLOCK
By the time you read this letter
I’ll be in Mobile
On a flight headed for the west coast
We tried to make it work…no deal
And in my fondest memory
Is the vision of your smile
That’s what I will miss the most
Every passing mile
When you see a plane in the sky
Will you think of me…
The fragrance of a passerby
Will you turn to see…
And at the end of the day
It didn’t matter much anyway, ay, ay…
Hands on the clock just keep on ticking by…
Someday you’ll understand and then you’ll fly
They were so in love one time
Many years ago
But life it just crept right on by
And the next thing that you know
Kids are all grown up and gone
Now there’s loneliness at home
And the one thing she thought she’d never do
Sent her flying off alone
When you see a plane in the sky
Will you think of me…
The fragrance of a passerby
Will you turn to see…
And at the end of the day
It didn’t matter much anyway, ay, ay…
Hands on the clock just keep on ticking by…
Someday you’ll understand and then you’ll fly
Life is short enough
So, make sure that it matters
If you don’t find a love
Then you should just move on
And when it gets too loud inside
Then sweep away the tatters
Buy a ticket for an airplane
Into the great beyond
When you see a plane in the sky
Will you think of me…
The fragrance of a passerby
Will you turn to see…
And at the end of the day
It didn’t matter much anyway, ay, ay…
Hands on the clock just keep on ticking by…
Someday you’ll understand and then you’ll fly
By the time you read this letter
I’ll be in Mobile……….
